The Challenge

Northwestern, a large academic health system with hundreds of locations throughout the Chicagoland area and more than 4,400 aligned physicians (including faculty, residents and scientists) was seeking to standardize productivity efforts in order to better to compare outcomes. Northwestern created a system wide initiative around productivity with a dedicated leadership team. The leadership team sought support from Teamwrks to implement both a software solution and to engage operational leaders in improving efficiency.

The Solution

We worked with Northwestern to standardize measurements across the organization’s Operating Line, and identified Operational Achievable Targets for each department in the organization; determining opportunities at the departmental level.

We applied pattern recognition to identify root causes; using our Insights Engine we were able to identify common themes affecting the organization.

We then worked with the Productivity Leaders to refine both an Executive Level Command Center and Department Level Dashboard (HomeBase).

The analytical insights generated by Teamwrks not only delivered significant cost savings but generated alignment of priorities and commitments across our network.

— Dan Bunnell, VP of Finance

The Result

Leveraging our technology and the processes, we were able to identify $26.8M in opportunity across 3 regions and 10 acute care hospitals. Projects initiated to address common themes across this opportunity landscape are expected to yield savings of $8M in year one.

The Productivity Team also identified value in leveraging Command Center and Dashboard technology to automate monthly reporting; replacing manual reporting, reducing publishing time, and freeing crucial finance resources from data analysis for execution of projects. Efforts which have helped to establish a common language and method of analysis for the entire network.

Leveraging our technology and the processes, we were able to identify $26.8M in opportunity across 3 regions and 10 acute care hospitals.
